Today I am sharing my simple yet incredibly delicious Andhra Style Pappu Charu (Dal Charu) recipe. This traditional South Indian comfort food is made with soaked toor dal (kandi pappu), tamarind pulp, green chilies, small onions, and a flavorful ghee tempering.
First, the toor dal is soaked for 30 minutes and slowly cooked until soft. Then small onions and green chilies are added for natural flavor. Spices like turmeric, red chili powder, and salt enhance the taste. Fresh tamarind extract gives a perfect tangy balance. Finally, a rich tempering (tadka) made with ghee, garlic, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing, dried red chilies, and curry leaves makes this pappu charu absolutely aromatic and mouthwatering.
When served hot over steamed rice and mixed well, especially with fire-roasted dry red chilies on the side, the taste is simply amazing and comforting.
