As an artist, Fei Cao perceives the world from various interesting ways. She once spent years with her team in Second Life, a virtual dimension, carefully considering if that world was real, then what it would be for city construction, human policies and so forth.
How can female artists express their ideas from different angles? Fei Cao responded with an answer beyond gender, through role play and factory creation in the real world, Second Life in a virtual dimension, and the cinematic haze.
Cao Fei is a Chinese artist based in Beijing. She is one of the most significant and innovative young artists to have emerged on the international scene from China. Her multimedia projects explore the lost dreams of the young Chinese generation and their strategies for overcoming and escaping reality.
Cao Fei’s recent solo exhibition Splendid River took place at Secession Museum, Vienna, Austria. Cao Fei was a nominee for the Future Generation Art Prize 2010 and the finalist of Hugo Boss Prize 2010. She received the 2006 Best Young Artist Award by Chinese Contemporary Art Award (CCAA).
