Dividing the ottoman empire has had a tremendous impact into regional affairs. How the Middle East was divided has led to many of the conflicts in the area that we see today. We start the conversation by talking about how European powers jumped on the opportunity and we're looking forward to dividing the Ottoman Empire. We then talk about British oil interest in the Middle East and the beginning of WW1. Dividing the Ottoman Empire would be a tough task during the war. They imposed a strategy called the Arab Turk split during WW1. This Middle East history podcast doesnt end their.

This meant backing certain tribes while dividing the Ottoman Empire.

How the Middle East was divided has led to a lot of chaos in the area. It is how the Britsh lost Egypt and other colonial possessions. It has led to the rise of Pan Arab Nationalism and the creation of modern Israel. One needs to explore all these factors when examining Mid Eastern history.

We also talk a lot about the beginning of the U.S Saudi partnership. The U.S Saudi partnership began in the early 1900's, however, it really took off the WW2. The U.S Saudi partnership began when the U.S army saw the Germans run out of oil in the Battle of the Bulge. We try to cover as much as possible during this MIddle East History Podcast.

Roy Casagranda is a political scientist, professor of government and resident Middle East expert at Austin Community College (ACC). His research lies with the intersection of politics, history, economics, psychology, and philosophy. He’ has been a college professor since 2002 and has been giving monthly lectures since 2006.

Roy is the faculty advisor for the Austin School, a student club that hosts a lecture series.
