Описание: Timket (Epiphany) is an Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church celebration of the Baptism of Jesus Christ. It is colorfully and uniquely commemorated on 19 January throughout Ethiopia.

Gonder, one of the most significant historical cities in Ethiopia - and one of the spiritual hubs of the country - is the epicentre for the Timket festivities.

The main festivities are usually held in the Emperor Fasilides bathhouse- a UNESCO recognized world heritage site.
Weeks before the festivity begins, water around the castle city of Gonder is rerouted to the bathhouse, and the solitary structure sat in the centre of a bone dry pool, is slowly submerged in Holy water. With the replicas of the Ark of Covenant, thousands of Christians colorfully celebrate the Timket- chanting and dancing spiritual songs in a manner unique only to Ethiopia.
