Residents of the heavily polluted Russian city of Chelyabinsk published a video on December 12 appealing for U.S. President-elect Joe Biden's help in "avoiding ecological genocide."
In the video, residents said that Russian authorities ignore their complaints and that industrial emissions in the city cause cancer and choke the city in smoke.
A local climate activist also said that residents decided to appeal to Joe Biden following citywide polls and that appealing to President Putin would be a "waste of time."
