Learn how to apply for the Employee Pension Scheme Certificate via FORM 10C in this video.
EPF Act has three major components:
1. Employees' Provident Fund (EPF)
2. Employees' Pension Scheme 1995 (EPS)
3. Employees' deposit linked insurance scheme (EDLI)

Since pension should be availed after retirement, when an employee switches jobs he/she has to transfer his old PF number to new PF number. At that time, he either has the option of pension withdrawal via Form 10C, if the service period is more than 6 months and less than 9 years 6 months, or he has the option to apply for a Pension Scheme Certificate and keep saving the pension for retirement.

The scheme certificates availed during the work life of the employee will together count the total number of years worked before retirement and make him/her eligible for the pension calculation as usual. When you join a new organization, you will need to provide the scheme certificate number in Form 11 to the company. You will need to apply for pension after retirement with the details of all your pension scheme certificates so as to get the right amount of pension. Thus, a pension scheme certificate is an essential tool for your best retirement planning.
