State Rep. Tony Hwang Talks with Board Members of The Kennedy Center in support of people with developmental disabilities. TRUMBULL - State Rep. Tony Hwang (134th District, Fairfield & Trumbull) visited Trumbull's Kennedy Center, one of the most comprehensive rehabilitation facilities in the state for people with developmental disabilities. The lawmakers' discussion with the Board of Directors focused on the high quality of client care and their financial needs in order to continue providing critical services and programs.
Hwang spoke with board member Mary Brown about the importance of developmental and social services for her daughter and the invaluable contributions of volunteers and staff members. Board member Stephen Smith shared information about the JOB support and network for her daughter and the quality of life that she enjoys because of the supportive services of The Kennedy Center.
"The Kennedy Center is providing cost efficient, high quality service to people with disabilities, their families and the community," said Rep. Hwang, an advocate for the people with disabilities and their supporting organizations like the Kennedy Center. "The Center's clients are some of our most vulnerable residents, and the services and support of the center allows for those residents to advocate for themselves. Today's discussion with Congressman Himes was productive, and I look forward to working with him to couple federal and state resources, and explore how we can help the Center continue its valuable work."
Rep. Hwang has a long history of legislative advocacy for the Kennedy Center, having supported the organization's fundraising efforts, and having testified before the Program Review and Investigations Committee about the cost and quality of care disparity between public and private facilities for the developmentally disabled.
The Kennedy Center is a not-for-profit rehabilitation agency supporting more than 2,000 children and adults with disabilities with vocational, residential, educational, therapeutic, social and recreational programs throughout the State of Connecticut. http://www.thekennedycenterinc.org/
