WasteCo's Former Thiess Side Arm

Описание: In April 2022 I found myself driving through torrential rain on the way to Clutha's Thursday collection area in hopes of catching two frontline trucks WasteCo ran in the area. At the time I was assuming I would run into a GenV/Isuzu (footage of which I have already uploaded) and a SL85/Isuzu. The Manco was off the road and filling in was this former Auckland Recycling truck which I assume floats between the company's operations in the Waitaki and Clutha Districts.

This truck started its life in the mid-2000s wrapped in Thiess colours and servicing recycling in the former City of Auckland. In 2017 when that contract ended, it and one other were purchased by WasteCo and transported down south, given a new coat of paint, and put to work in Christchurch. While I'm not entirely sure of its use here, I remember seeing it driving around town on numerous occasions over the years.

I hope this video serves to showcase a slightly different way of doing things. As opposed to the regular three bin system, Clutha residents still only have two bins, with one collected each week. A decent number of old OTTO wheelies still remain in use, which would have been picked up by a variety of different trucks over their near 30 years of service. Clutha has seen contracts held by companies such as Auckland's Metro Waste, locals Pratty's Bins/EcoWaste, Delta Infrastructure, and obviously more recently WasteCo. The more I dug the more questions were raised with the history of domestic rubbish collection in this region! I can recall in recent memory seeing a photo of two slick new trucks WasteCo have put to work down in these parts, so I assume they have retained the work and will continue to operate in Clutha for some time.
