“Now everyone should read Lenin's work on the development of imperialism and understand what will inevitably lead to a new major conflict and war. You can see another imperialist in action. Just a year ago, you wouldn't have imagined that Trump would say, ‘the Western hemisphere is mine, Greenland is ours.’ Canada will also have to obey, and Mexico, and so on. And they would kidnap the leader of a sovereign country, a member of the UN—Venezuela—and lock up Nicolás Maduro and his wife in their prison.”

STORYLINE:
Russian Communists laid flowers and wreaths at Lenin’s Mausoleum on Red Square on Wednesday to mark the 102nd anniversary of the Soviet leader’s death.

Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov led the ceremony.

Speaking to gathered media, Zyuganov said that Vladimir Lenin’s work on imperialism has become relevant again in today’s geopolitical climate.

“You can see another imperialist in action. Just a year ago, you wouldn’t have imagined that (U.S. President Donald) Trump would say, ‘The Western Hemisphere is mine, Greenland is ours,’” he said. “And that they would kidnap the leader of a sovereign country, a member of the United Nations—Venezuela—and imprison Nicolás Maduro and his wife."

Zyuganov also compared U.S. President Donald Trump to a Roman emperor and an Egyptian pharaoh.
