It all started when I decided to find a place to live closer to work to avoid long commutes. A listing for a house in the suburbs seemed ideal. Without hesitation, I signed the lease. I spent the day unpacking boxes, and when evening fell, I went for a walk and ran into a neighbor, who told me that the previous tenant had disappeared without a trace a few days ago. I didn't pay any attention to it at the time. The truth behind it became clear later...

The next day, I began exploring the house and discovered a strange door. There were no handles or locks on it, only a stylized image of a hand. Without realizing it, I placed my hand on the image, and the door vanished! Beyond it lay infinity...

There were no walls, no floor, only the silent splendor of deep space. Distant stars glowed brightly in the velvety darkness. Before me, suspended over this abyss, stretched a narrow, translucent bridge. It seemed like a glass ribbon, fragile and impossible. At the far end, slowly rotating in the darkness, was the Vortex – a swirling, multicolored circle of light, rotating in a hypnotic rhythm.

I stood before this splendor for a long time. Fear told me to flee. But in the end, curiosity prevailed. I walked across the bridge, and beneath my feet lay the universe. As I approached the rotating rainbow, I was simply drawn there by some unknown force...

The transition was instantaneous. One breath, and I found myself in a completely unknown place, breathing in unfamiliar air, smelling of pungent spices and ozone. The only relief was that there was solid ground beneath my feet. I stood on a hill, and before me stretched a completely alien landscape. The sky was a light green, illuminated by an orange sun. The grass around me was waist-high blue. Spiraling light-colored trees arched toward the sky like giant drills. This was definitely not Kansas.

I was terrified, but I tried to pull myself together. Having calmed down a bit, I looked around and saw something resembling a makeshift hut nearby, in a clearing by a silvery stream, and I walked toward it. That's how we met. You were trying to repair the roof of your flimsy abode. When you saw me, you froze.

"You walked through the door," you said simply.

We thought we were alone here, preparing to live out our days, surviving together against the alien wilderness. But two days later, everything changed. We were sitting by the stream when a shadow fell over us. An elegant, silent flying machine, undoubtedly artificial, flew across the sky. We are not alone here! We found each other. And now we'll find the flyer's creators...
