Today we're going to take a look at the HydraStar electric over hydraulic actuator for drum brakes. This has a 1200 psi rating. Now this HydraStar electric over hydraulic actuator will offer a fast response time for shorter stopping distances in emergency situations or even in everyday towing. You can control those fractions of seconds that matter when it comes to stopping your trailer. This actuator has a 1200 psi pressure which is suitable for 8,000-pound and larger drum brake applications. It will work on single, tandem and triple axle trailers with drum brakes. This will eliminate the feel of being pushed by the trailer.
It also eliminates problems found when backing a trailer uphill with surge brakes or even brake drag. It will eliminate the brake drag which is common with surge brakes on a downhill grade. As you can see this actuator is in a nice sealed, extruded, anodized aluminum housing. It is designed to mount to the trailer, connects into your trailer's wiring and the hydraulic brake lights. Now this does require the use of an end 00:01:00 cap brake controller.
It will work with most electronic brake controller that have electric over hydraulic brake function. This does require a breakaway kit. We do sell it separately on our website. It's part number HS496-82. Again, it's listed on this product page as a related product. This connects to the 12-volt DC operation.
It is solid state electronics. When you put brake fluid in here, here's the filler tube, take the cap off. You can use DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid in here. Now the HydraStar actuators are very easy to install. They do meet all DOT and federal braking requirements unlike some of your surge brakes which are illegal in many states. To install this ...
First I want to go over and show you a few of the things. We showed you the filler cap and where you put your brake fluid in. Right here is a bleeder valve. You use that to take out any air in your hydraulic system when you connect it. Right down here is your output port. That's where your hydraulic lines will connect to the actuator. Then you have your four wires right here. When you install this, these four 12-gauge wires right here, basically the black wire. This will go to a 12-volt constant power from your tow vehicle. The blue wire, this will go to the output from your end cap brake controller. The white will be your ground which connects to the tow vehicle ground and the yellow will connect to the cold side of your breakaway switch, not the battery side. It comes with this owners manual which is a nice set of instructions and even talks about the features of this actuator. The last thing I want to do is give you some dimensions on this to let you know how large it is. The height from the bottom to the very top, the highest point where the cap is, it's going to be right about 7-1/4 inches tall. The length which will measure from edge to edge or the mounting bracket included. If we put a ruler on that edge to edge will be right at 11-3/4 inches. Then the width at the widest point right here is going to be right at 3 inches wide. That should do it for the review of the HydraStar electric over hydraulic actuator for drum brakes with a 1200 psi rating.
