UPI payments are set to see a change! 💸

Under the announced rules, a 0.4% Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) will apply to specified Person-to-Merchant (P2M) UPI transactions above ₹2,000. An additional 18% GST applies to the MDR amount, not the entire transaction value.

📌 Example:
If a merchant receives ₹10,000 through an eligible UPI transaction:

• MDR (0.4%) = ₹40
• GST on MDR (18%) = ₹7.20
• Total fee = ₹47.20

⚠️ Important update: The rollout originally scheduled for October 15 has been postponed until after Diwali. The revised implementation date is yet to be announced.

✅ Person-to-Person (P2P) UPI transfers remain free.
✅ Eligible merchant transactions up to ₹2,000 remain free of MDR.
✅ The MDR is a merchant-side charge, not a fee that should be passed on to customers.
