Cork laying for the track bed as begin - now this is a long and testing task, ensuring it is laid in the right place, that the track then sits on it and then the rolling stock will also run on it.
My challenge currently is that whilst I can push on and finish the Main line, Townscene, Station and Viaduct the Marshalling Yard is on the slow burner as I need more points.
As you can see I have set the bridge board at a lower level to create more depth, but also to avoid the slopes into and out of the bridge.
This is the section I changed to a double rail and have checked that the rolling stock can pass throughout the layout - OK so far.
From the bridge section to the outer sections, it is slightly higher and so I have used cork to manage the slopes in and out.

I found that the best way to lay the cork was in a number of steps.
1. Place the track down and then draw a pencil line on the outside of the track.I found that the best way to lay the cork was in a number of steps.

2. I actually cut the track in 4cm strips as it provided a good shoulder for the ballast as well as slopes around the entrance and exit to the bridge section.

3. The strips after being cut in 4cm strips was then cut in half again (approx 2cms).
4. I then placed small cuts on the right sides of each strip - I varied depending on the radius. But i did find that it made the installation on the corners relatively easy.

5. I glued the 2cm approx strips into place bending them to follow the pencil line.
6. Placed weights on the cork to assist with drying.I glued the 2cm approx strips into place bending them to follow the pencil line.
