Kibera is one of Africa's largest and most densely populated slums, located in Nairobi, Kenya. It is home to hundreds of thousands of people living in impoverished conditions with limited access to basic amenities such as clean water, sanitation, healthcare, and education. The area lacks proper infrastructure, and its residents face numerous challenges, including poverty, unemployment, and inadequate living conditions.
Human Needs Project has been transforming the community since 2012 by building sustainable infrastructure overlaid with social services to provide Kiberans with clean drinking water, sanitation, food, education, jobs and opportunities to break out of poverty. At the backbone of the Kibera Town Centre lies cutting-edge, independent, environmentally-friendly infrastructure, providing affordable water, sanitation, and energy services. The Kibera Town Centre is powered by a 1000-foot deep borehole, capable of supplying an astounding 500,000 liters of clean water per day, purified by a state-of-the-art reverse-osmosis system. Equipped with a proprietary wastewater treatment system and powered by grid-tie solar generation, the Kibera Town Centre provides essential services to over 1,000 people daily.

Human Needs Project is currently in advanced stages of building Kibera's first water bottling plant and replicating its town center model in other areas of Kibera to create an ecosystem of infrastructure to empower more individuals to break out out poverty.
