I had been overly sheltered ever since I can remember. My parents were crazy about keeping me safe. I was home schooled; I wasn’t allowed to use my real name on social media; my profile
had to be kept extremely low; I was never allowed to leave the house without taking seven to ten body guards; whenever I went out, I had to ride in a bullet-proof car; and I had multiple
passports and ID’s with different names on it. Whenever my parents and I travel abroad, we never use our real passports. We were always using another identity which was really weird.
Whenever I asked my parents why I couldn’t go to school and live like a normal kid, they’d always tell me that it wasn’t safe for me. They told me that the outside world was filled with evil people who might take interest in harming me because of our wealth. I understood that my parents were filthy rich. I’m not exaggerating. My bath tub is made out of 18 karat gold and we have a diamond embedded Rolls Royce; which we never use and just keep on display by the way. My point was even royalties go to school, so why can’t I? But whenever I brought up the idea of doing stuff on my own in the outside world, my parents would always disapprove. They simply brought in a professional tutor to teach me whatever I wanted so I wouldn’t have to go outside. Yes, I had a lot of money and my life was luxurious but I felt like I was a prisoner in my own home and my parents were the warden. When I was 13, I began to understand that the way my parents
were keeping me home was not normal at all. What were they hiding? It wasn’t long before I figured it out. One day, I decided to sneak out of our mansion. My parents have always kept the house well guarded. I didn’t know if it was to keep thieves out or to keep me in; but I guess it was both. Anyway, I found a small opening by the garden wall- a hole enough to fit a petite girl like me. I guess no one noticed it because it was covered with vines. I crept out and hitched a ride to the city. You see, even if I was too sheltered, I learned how normal people lived and behaved from videos I saw on the internet. There, I met this boy Tim. I told him I was a tourist and he was kind enough to show me around town. I had a grand time. It felt so good to be free and it felt even better to finally have a friend, someone who doesn’t treat me like his master. I snuck out over and over again. I’d go to the city and meet Tim without my parents’ consent. I thought what I was
doing went unnoticed, but one day...BANG! A gunshot cracked through the air. It all happened so fast. The next thing I knew, Tim was lying on the ground with a bullet in his head. My body guards rushed and dragged me to the car and brought me home. I was so confused. Why would my body
guards suddenly shoot Tim? He didn’t do anything wrong. When I arrived home, my parents explained that they thought I had been kidnapped so they sent out their men and directed them to shoot to kill whoever I was with. I was so hurt. I told them that Tim was my friend.
