The '90s Net: Remember When Friendships Were Real?

Описание: There will definitely be more reminiscing around this subject soon, as I've been noticing a lot lately how suddenly different the world & the goth scene are becoming, & despite my ongoing antiquity I'm feeling quite blessed to have experienced such rapid-change eras of human history. If you were a teenager in the late '90s, your parents would warn you a LOT about never falling in love with boys on the internet, or running off to see them - it was a HUGE epidemic at that point; the honest, raw, intense friendships teens developed online did lead to a lot of kids running away from home to meet their lovers, often without even seeing pictures of them...& while us teenagers DID often travel across the country to meet up with online friends, knowing nothing more than 'I'll be outside WHSmiths at London Marylebone, 11am, I've got bright red hair & I'll be wearing a leopardprint coat', & it was the most exhilarating adventure ever, to finally be able to give the first & only people on Earth to understand you, & truly love you in all your messy, screwed up truth, a real flesh & bone hug, to our parents' generation, you did NOT meet up with Internet People. Internet People were all lunatics & perverts & would probably kill you & dump you in a canal! It was a special time to be young, & while we've gained so much - I've no idea what I'd be doing without YouTube, & Amazon publishing, & iTunes for music releases, & being able to Google pictures & info on everywhere in the world for writing inspo without travelling the world myself, we've also lost a lot as the internet's gotten faster, favouring pictures over text, self promotion over honesty, giving us so much home entertainment that we aren't bored enough to go out and try new things, new places, until actual subcultures, nightclubs, meetups have begun dying dying dying...progress is not always good... But anyway, if you too have stories from the early internet times, I'm eager to hear them! :D
