Discovered and selected in a field of Little Bluestem seedlings by Dr. Mary Meyer at the University of Minnesota, this outstanding selection of a NATIVE prairie grass has been impressive in our trials.
With a taller, more upright, sturdy and rigid habit than many other selections, we have found it holds up better and doesn't flop as readily as many of the older selections we used to grow.
Join David in our nursery as he explains how the summer foliage color starts out a bright steel-blue and then changes to purple and burgundy shades as the shorter days and cooler temperatures of Autumn arrive.
This exciting Fall color (which is a mixture of purples, blues, reds, pinks and orange shades), usually persists well into mid and late Autumn, and is particularly eye-catching as the gently swaying stems glisten in the early morning dew or late afternoon sunlight.
