💡 #TechnicalTips: What’s The Best Foundation for Your Veneer?
The substrate is the unsung hero of a successful veneer project! What you apply your veneer to makes all the difference in stability and the final aesthetic.
Here’s the breakdown on what to use—and what to absolutely avoid:
The Substrate Hierarchy (Best to Worst Stability)
🏆 Most Stable: MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). It offers the most stable and uniform foundation.
👍 Stable Options: Industrial Particle Board or Veneer Core Plywood.
⚠️ Least Stable (Avoid): Hardwood. Try not to use this when veneering.
Crucial Surface Prep Warning:
Always ensure your substrate is perfectly clean and smooth. Avoid using pieces with holes, scratches, or dirt. If you must use an imperfect piece, you must sand it down first, or the veneer will show every imperfection through the finished piece!
