Mary Prince (c. 1788–1833) was an enslaved Bermudian woman whose 1831 autobiography, The History of Mary Prince, was the first published by a Black woman in Britain. Her harrowing, firsthand account of life as a "salt slave" and the sexual exploitation of enslaved women provided a devastating weapon for the abolitionist movement, shocking the British public just two years before the Slavery Abolition Act.
