In this video Tim Humble explains what shirk is and why it is so dangerous and gives examples comparing Tawheed and shirk together.
Understanding What shirk is and how to avoid it is very important because Shirk is one of the Major sins that can enter a person into hellfire if he/she dies upon it.

So what is Shirk?
It is ascribing a partner or rival to Allaah in Lordship (ruboobiyyah), worship or in His names and attributes.

COMMON EXAMPLES OF SHIRK:
-Worshiping idols, saints, messengers (jesus(pbuh), ezra etc)
-Invoking dead saints
-Worshipping your desires
-Showing off your good deeds to please people instead of allah. (e.g. Praying to show off)
-Showing off your good deeds is minor shirk.
-Wearing an amulet/taweez.
-Voting for a government that makes haram things halal.
-Fearing other then Allah
-Having intermediaries or intercessors in worship between you & Allah.
-Prostrating to the graves, doing tawaf around the grave of dead saints.
-Swearing by something other then Allah. E.g. Swearing on your mums life.
-Making dua, invoking other then Allah. Dua is only for Allah!
-Celebrating Christmas also is shirk because your approving of the belief that jesus is son of god or that he should be worshipped instead of worshipping Allah[God].
-Asking help from peers or saints to cure your illness.
-Fortune telling
-Arguing on Allah's Commands (e.g. Saying Hijab is not compulsory)
-Extreme admiration of celebrities and idols, Following them instead of Prophet Muhammad(pbuh)

Everyone should study and learn about Major and Minor Shirk, this video just covers the basics but you should follow it up by reading books and doing your own research so you can avoid Shirk.
