Описание: Gallo Vault Sessions is a 6-part podcast series brought to you by Gallo Music in collaboration with KONJO and in association with Sowetan. In this podcast, we delve into the story of Gallo, Africa’s largest and oldest recording company, and reflect on the ways music shapes culture, and how our culture has been shaped by music, both at the centre and periphery of Africa’s music history.

We bridge 95 years of Gallo’s music history with KONJO’s passion for cultural storytelling and chats with artists, label executives, radio veterans and music thinkers as we explore the undercurrents, backstories and overlooked tapes from the Gallo Vault, from mbaqanga to soul.

The six part series takes shape as an audio documentary format, with a narrative arch that takes the listener on a journey through music history. Listeners get to connect the dots between some of the biggest cultural and political moments in South African and by extension African society.

Each episode is accompanied by a curated DJ Mix as a thematic soundtrack for your month, featuring some of South Africa’s most sought-after original recordings, compiled by some of the most discerning selectors in the scene. The series is narrated by Kineta Kunutu, and researched, produced and written by artist and researcher Zara Julius at KONJO.
