Who Are the Mu’tazilah? – Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen رحمه الله

Описание: The Shaykh, may Allah have mercy on him, was questioned regarding a group known as the Mu’tazilah. He responded:

“The Mu’tazilah are an innovated group. They say about Allah, the Speech of Allah, and the actions of Allah what opposes the way of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah. Their founder was Amr ibn Ubayd along with Wasil ibn Ataa’. They are named the Mu’tazilah because they left (i’tizaal) from the gathering of al-Hasan al-Basri when he affirmed that the person who commits a major sin is not devoid of faith, but rather they are a believer with deficient faith, or they are believer due to their faith and a sinner because of their major offense. So, they (the Mu’tazilah) left from the gathering of al-Hasan al-Basri and they made their famous proclamation that the one who commits major sins is in a station between two positions (manzilah baina manzilahtain). So, they are neither a believer nor a disbeliever, however, despite this they are to abide eternally in the Hellfire. So, they concur with the Khawarij in this statement that the major sinner will abide in the Hellfire, however the Khawarij explicitly say that the sinner is a disbeliever outside the fold of Islam. These Mu’tazilah (also) make it apparent that the major sinner has left Islam, though they dare not say that they are a kafir, instead they say the sinner is in a station between two positions. This station is proven to be in opposition to the Speech of Allah where He, the Blessed and Most High says:

هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُمۡ فَمِنكُمۡ ڪَافِرٌ۬ وَمِنكُم مُّؤۡمِنٌ۬‌ۚ
‘It is He who created you, then some of you are disbelievers and some of you are believers.’ [Surah at-Taghabun, Ayah 2]

There is no third division that is neither a disbeliever nor a believer, except according to the statement of the Mu’tazilah who innovated into Allah’s religion and legislation that which is not from it.”
