Righteousness = a state of him who is as he ought to be, a condition acceptable to God, right standing, just, justified; the doctrine concerning the way in which a man may attain a state approved unto God, innocent.
Noah was considered a preacher of righteousness in the days before the flood came upon the earth and took away all those who were eating and drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage until that day came upon them. The mercy of God being preached through Noah who found grace in his eyes, in building of the ark as a way of escape from the judgment that was to come upon the face of the whole earth, that those who would give heed to the warning would enter the ark and be saved. Yet there were only eight righteous souls who entered the ark: Noah, his wife, their three sons and their wives. Only eight listened and were saved in the days of Noah. As in the days of Noah, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Watch, for you know not what hour the Lord will come. (2 Peter 2:5, Matthew 24:36-42, Genesis 6:1-7:24)
The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18).
As in the days of Noah, so are the days we are in today. Our Father in heaven has provided all mankind a way of escape through his Son Jesus Christ, so all are without excuse. The Lord is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (2Peter 3:9) and be saved from the wrath of God which is to come upon the sons of disobedience (Ephesians 5:6, Colossians 3:6), which is to be poured out upon the earth.
All men without Christ are most miserable, wretched, poor, blind, and naked, not having a robe of righteousness to cover their spiritual nakedness (their sins), and they go about establishing their own righteousness which in the sight of God is as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).
Romans 10:3-4 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. KJV
Knowing the severity of that which is to come, we too should be a preacher of righteousness, preaching the gospel of Christ as the Spirit guides us to all who will receive it. Christ Jesus is the way of escape from sins and this present evil world, and he is the mediator between God and man, he is the only way to the Father, and the only way to the marriage feast of the Lamb in which you must have on a wedding garment acceptable unto God, the robe of righteousness.
(Matthew 22:1-14, Isaiah 61:10, Revelation 19:6-9)
1 Peter 2:9-10 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. KJV
Revelation 1:5-6 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. KJV
1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: KJV
Are you clothed in righteousness? Are you preaching Christ? Christ is the wisdom and the power of God (1Corinthians 1:24). Christ is the righteousness of God. Paul the Apostle said, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes…(Romans 1:16). For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17)”. Live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved you, and gave himself for you (Galatians 2:20), and be a preacher of righteousness in sincerity, and in truth, and in deed. God bless and keep the faith.
