What is the chimney fire response when you live at an off grid cabin in Alaska? We had a chimney fire at our off grid cabin and we'll share what happened, our fire safety tips, and our lessons learned from this scary adventure. We'll also show you how a fire truck responds in Alaska in winter! We are on the very outer edge of Talkeetna fire district and it is a good thing we've been plowing our access road!
We are all fine and the cabin seems to be fine, but we are now without our major heat source for the rest of the winter. We are still in minus temperatures overnight, but we do have our back-up propane heater. However, that does have its limits and can increase the carbon monoxide levels. We share what happened when we turned the heat up.
