Описание: ➡️ Castelnou is a French commune located in the east of the Pyrénées-Orientales department, in the Occitanie region.
Historically and culturally, the commune is in the Aspres region, a tiny Roussillon territory between the furrows of Têt to the north and Tech to the south which takes its name from the stony nature of its soils.

The castle of Castelnou has been mentioned since 994.
Its name designates a new castle, built around 988-990, perhaps in relation to the neighboring castle of Camélas, already mentioned in 941 and therefore older.
In Catalan, the name of the municipality is Castellnou or Castellnou dels Aspres

This village was ranked the seventh favorite village of the French in 2015 among the 21 other villages present in the competition.

Labeled the most beautiful villages in France, the village of Castelnou, built on the hillside in the hollow of the Aspres, is dominated by its castle.
The village is organized around two parallel streets: Carrer d'Avall and Carrer del Mig, several stepped streets allowing you to go from one to the other. We also notice the presence of bread ovens, semi-circular in shape, and grafted onto the facades of several houses.
At the level of the overhang of certain roofs, we can see sponge cakes painted on the back of the tiles.
Several houses also have beautiful, well-cut stones, probably coming from the castle.
The fortifications largely remain, the most notable part being the Millars Gate to the north of the village, flanked by two towers.
