Along Kenya’s coast, artisanal fishers have long faced post-harvest losses, with much of their catch spoiling before reaching the market. The Solar for Ice Project, funded by the ProTechno Foundation through WWF International, is changing this reality.
With new solar-powered ice plants at Takaungu (Kilifi) and Kiwayu (Lamu), fishers can now preserve their catch from sea to market. The result: improved fish quality, higher incomes, and stronger coastal livelihoods.
This initiative shows how clean energy and sustainable fisheries management can go hand in hand to support people and nature. 🌍💙
