Raif Badawi is a blogger who has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1000 lashes (50 every Friday for 20 weeks) for "spreading liberal thoughts" and "insulting Islam."
The flogging started on Friday, January 9.

"This is the video of the gathering at the mosque when they started publicly flogging رائف بدوي Raif Badawi. This is what I was just told by confirmed sources:
'Raif was thinking of each one of us [his supporters] when he was in the mini bus. He was reciting our names when they were lashing him to give him strength. He did not flinch; he held the victory symbol when they started; and policeman accompanying him had to hold his hand down to stop him.'
Raif, your courage is inspiring.
Ensaf, your husband is a hero. My heart breaks for your lovely little children. I hope our tears, protests, and statements would melt the heart of these barbarians who have nothing but violence to offer. I hope their humanity wakes up.
