Queen Mary's Dolls' House is the largest and most famous dolls' house in the world. Built between 1921 and 1924 for Queen Mary, consort of King George V, by the leading British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens, it contains works from over 1,500 of the finest artists, craftspeople and manufacturers of the early 20th century.
The King's and Queen's respective suites can be accessed on the second floor, via the marble staircase. Each room contains articles and decorations particular to the owner's needs. The walls of the Queen's Bedroom are covered in blue-grey damask, reflecting the style of the 1920s. Both beds have mattresses of horsehair on top of a box-sprung mattress and hot water bottles have been placed beneath the sheets.
The bedroom was designed as if for Queen Mary herself and everything is designed for comfort. There are walls lined with silk, carpets on the floor and lacquer furniture. The bed head is embroidered with the monogram of George V and Queen Mary.
At the end of the bed there is a plant in a pot, with miniature diamonds inserted among the branches, created by Fabergé. The bedroom has electric light.
There is a miniature miniature of George V. Next door there is a bathroom with an alabaster bath.
