Shigley's Example 3-2 Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagrams using MacCaulay/Singularity Functions
Step 1: Write the Load function, q(x), using MacCaulay (Singularity) functions
Step 2: Integrate to find the Shear Force function, V(x)
Step 3: Integrate again to find the Bending Moment function, M(x)
Step 4: Plug in V=0 and M=0 at a location just to the right of the end of the beam to solve for the reaction forces on both sides
Step 5: Draw the Shear Force diagram
Step 6: Draw the Bending Moment diagram
Important: 2 ways a MacCaulay term = 0:
1. x less than a (therefore the term is not turned "on" yet)
2. the exponent is less than 0 (technically it's undefined, but we replace it with 0)
