When vents are created in basement fires, especially those with walk-out doors and windows, fire conditions can change rapidly. Here a bidirectional flow from the front door changes into a unidirectional flow after the walk-out basement windows/doors fail creating a large inlet. The unidirectional flow fills the stairwell from floor to ceiling with smoke, fire and hot gasses.
