Following my trip to beautiful Vietnam, we are going to try all kinds of local cuisine in the night market of this city, and also taste the cool sugarcane juice and the famous banh mi sandwich.
We came to Can Tho, a city in the Mekong Delta region in southern Vietnam, which is famous for its canal network and floating markets around it. The modern 2.75 km Can Tho cable-stayed bridge is located on the river. The busy Ninh Kieu Pier is a place to to boat trips to the surrounding waterways. Can Tho beach, which is lit up at night, has a very beautiful and live night market, so we tried all the local food here. All the stalls and shops are on the side of the street, and the first local dish I ate was rice paper, which is made on a charcoal grill with eggs, dried onions, pork, chives, mayonnaise sauce and I must say it was very delicious.
In another stall, I ate coconut rice paper, which was cooked in a small and cool oven that was made with wood fire, and you can enjoy it fresh and hot. On top it had sesame and it was very crispy and tasty. Next, we decided to taste sugarcane juice. They used an interesting machine and in a completely traditional way, they passed the sugarcane through a roller and due to the pressure of the rotation of the machine, the sugarcane juice flowed from below into its special container. Then they poured it in a cup full of ice, which was really amazing, I liked the taste very much. In another stall, we had special rice that was emptied into a relatively large bucket, which was very interesting to me. You could have rice with chicken and other various items that you can order from.
From another shop, we tried the very famous banh mi sandwich. This Vietnamese sandwich is made with dried pork and cucumber and was truly amazing. Another local food we ate had peanuts, peppers, and corn inside. It had dried beef and chopped fish with mango and onion oil, all of which were mixed together and tasted absolutely delicious.
