All about FIR - What to do if Police does not register FIR? by Ashok Dhamija, Advocate and Former IPS.
This video explains in detail as to what is an FIR (First Information Report). FIR is registered by police in respect only of cognizable offences. Cognizable offences are also explained. Your rights in respect of mandatory registration of FIR are explained if a cognizable offence has occurred. The judgment of the Supreme Court in the case of Lalita Kumari v. Govt. of UP (of 2013) has been explained in which it was held that on receipt of a report of cognizable offence having taken place, it is mandatory for police to register FIR.
It has also been explained that if the police refuses to register FIR, then what steps are required to be taken by the complainant or the informant. Relevant legal provisions have been explained in simple language.
