Описание: Plastic pollution in stormwater is an emerging environmental concern that can impact both water quality and aquatic life. This webcast explores the role of stormwater runoff in contributing to microplastic contamination in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The presentation highlights key findings from recent research by Trash Free Maryland and the University of Toronto, focusing on the sources and sinks of microplastics across urban watersheds. Using data from four case study watersheds, the session examines how microplastics from stormwater, wastewater treatment plants, and agricultural runoff compare to background contamination in the Bay. The session will also explore the composition of microplastics found in the region, including fibers, fragments, foam, and film. Finally, implications for stormwater management and potential policy solutions will be discussed to mitigate the growing threat of plastic pollution in our watersheds.
