“Creepy Environment Obscurity”, drifts into being like a celestial mist settling over an uncharted void, where the listener is drawn into a realm where the infinite cold of space shimmers between shards of raw and atmospheric black metal. Here, jagged riffs erupt from swells of dark ambient, only to recede again into cosmic reverie, as though each tremolo-picked notes were a shooting star burning bright, and then vanishing again against an obsidian firmament.

Though echoes of the aesthetics from Paysage d’hiver flicker at the edges, Cosmic Obscurity trades crystalline frost for something more nebulous and unknowable. The ambient passages come not as mere interludes, but as vast, yawning chasms through which one’s thoughts drift in weightless suspension. In these moments, the drums themselves seem to pulse with the heartbeat of a distant galaxy, and guitar melodies stretch and distort like light bending around a black hole.

Yet the cruelty of harsh black metal never fully relinquishes its grip. When the blast beats return, they crash like meteor storms, sending shards of molten darkness scattering across the sonic skyline. And then, without warning, the fury dissolves into a haze so soft it might be mistaken for quiet, until you realize it is the stillness that possesses real terror. It is in this cycle of creation and collapse, of brilliance and oblivion, that this record finds its strength.

Over the course of its half-hour span, Cosmic Obscurity manages to create a singular voyage through cosmic cataclysm and serenity. While the two bookending tracks of nearly pure dark ambient and drone act as the threshold and return, guiding the listener into and out of this alien terrain, revealing another facet of the void’s inscrutable beauty.

Cosmic Obscurity demonstrates a grand and intimate vision that beckons us to embrace the eerie majesty of the unknown and to lose ourselves, willingly, in its starless expanse.
