Having reached 60 and with the spectre of Brexit looming, Linda wanted to change the direction of her life and to find a new home. This is the story of a now or never adventure. Opportunities fade if you do not gather them up and inject them with life and passion.The interview opens with a story of sibling rivalry, the competitive spirit that existed between herself and her brother, Christopher Stevens of Brighton School of Art, who is, as she says, a very fine painter.

In the interview Linda talks of being embraced by her new home, the wonderful village of Baone on the edge of Monte Cecilia. Here she has found a truly Italian welcome from the people, in particular from the local bar (Ristorante Venire) and from the Grocer’s / Enoteca (Il Molino degli Euganei). There is a special mention made of Francesco who, with his parents, is making a name as a provider of fine food and wines. From the beginning Francesco was on hand to explain and provide the generous support needed by strangers in a foreign land. Baone is a village with a huge heart that has made Linda “their” artist.

Putting paint on canvas or paper (she is both a water colourist and painter in oils) is the final part of the creative journey. Time spent in the car commuting has become a formative part of her technique. This is where Linda gathers her dreams to weave the magic that becomes the final work.

She talks about process, the inspiration from the land that leads to the way that a painting grows in her mind as she drives. Ideas come from what she sees and experiences as the seasons change. This is a journey from autumn, and the scent of the prosecco grapes when they are harvested, to the first poppies of spring and the fresh shoots of a new summer in Italy.
