In late 1944, a massive fleet of these trucks operated by 23,000 U.S. soldiers—70 percent of whom were Black—delivered crucial supplies to the frontlines. U.S. Army General Eisenhower credited this “lifeline between combat and supply” with the success of the Allied armies.
