In this poem of about 24,000 lines, he has given to a brief episode in the Mahabharata a unique turn. The legend in the Mahabharata is a story on the spiritual power of a devoted wife, Savitri, who succeeds in bringing her husband back from the god of Death. In Sri Aurobindo’s epic, Savitri has been sent to earth by the Divine to eliminate misery and suffering on the planet by raising the level of human consciousness. In this video, Ramesh Bijlani brings out the linkages between the two legends and the magical turn Sri Aurobindo has given to the original legend in the Mahabharata.
