Jonathan Millett. Latitudinal gradient of plant-plant interactions reverses Glogler’s rule

Описание: Ecogeographic rules help us to understand pattern and process in a variety of organisms and ecosystems. Glogler’s rule predicts that pigmentation will increase from the poles to the equator and has been found to hold for a wide variety of animals. In plants, however, this has only been tested for UV reflecting pigments in flowers, showing increased pigmentation due to UV protection. Plant leaves vary in colour, in particular red pigmentation from the flavonoid anthocyanin, which is implicated in UV protection.
