Lexus debuted this all new redesigned IS line-up for the 2014 model year. The 2 different model designations are the 250 and 350 and what sets them apart are the engine choices. The 2014 Lexus IS 250 is powered by an anemic 2.5 liter V-6 that only makes 204 horsepower while the IS 350 is powered by a much more potent 3.5 liter V-6 engine that makes 306 horsepower. The IS 250 starts at $35,950 while the IS 350 has a base price of $39,465. So for about $3500 you get the much more powerful engine. The car reviewed here in this test drive video is an IS 350 with the optional navigation package.

On the outside the redesigned 2014 Lexus IS showcases the L-finesse Design Language and the modern interpretation of that takes it cues from the LFA supercar and LF concept cars. Up front the spindle style grille is very exaggerated. The LED daytime running lamps are integrated into the bumper along with HID headlights. Out back the dramatic taillights almost extend to the rear fender flares. All the design elements out back give the 2014 Lexus IS a lot of presence.

On the inside the Lexus IS has some extra rear seat room when compared to the previous models thanks to the wheel base being stretched a bit with this redesign. Even though he IS 350 is a compact sedan, it can still comfortably carry 4 people. The front passenger seats are very comfortable featuring 10-way adjustable support. The leather is very soft and comfortable. The controls are easy to use and the navigation screen is nicely placed. The steering wheel is great along with the paddle shifters.

Ever since the IS first debuted for the 2001 model year, Lexus has positioned this car as a legitimate 3-Series competitor. This 3rd generation IS luxury car is like no other IS before it. With the 2014 IS 350 model, Lexus has taken aim at the BMW 3-Series. If you are shopping for a car in this segment then the 2014 Lexus IS 350 should be on your list.
