"Dinner is a struggle!"...
Never a dull moment along the leaf covered Avon riverbank. The belted kingfisher female suddenly made a grand entrance to the riverbank. She was clearly heard screaming upon her approach then perched high over the river in hunt mode. She was hyper, actively searching, and focused on the water's surface. She immediately strikes diving into the cold river below, then she flew fast to a dark hidden tree to enjoy her meal. I walked along the riverbank and found her perched on dense tree limb and she was struggling to swallow her prize. I've never seen such a long struggle before it appeared the fish may have been a little too large to safely swallow. Tense moments during several minutes as it appeared she had now had the fish stuck in her throat, then all of a sudden she flew off to a new location. I couldn't find her again, and I assume she swallowed the fish in flight. Nature at its best!
