There’s something incredibly satisfying about turning wood that came from your own backyard! 🌳 Today on the lathe, I’m working on a custom wooden can koozie made from a stunning piece of spalted maple.
If you look closely at the grain, you can see those beautiful black "zone lines." That’s the spalting process at work—nature’s way of adding character to the wood. Turning spalted wood requires sharp tools and a bit of extra care, but the results are always one-of-a-kind.
I love taking a log that was just sitting on the ground and turning it into something functional and beautiful. This backyard woodturning project is definitely going to be a favorite.
