I drove to the Madison River at -5°F thinking I’d spend the day fly fishing.
Instead, I found slush, ice, and a river that simply said no.
This trip wasn’t about catching fish. It was about showing up anyway. Winter in Montana doesn’t care about plans. The Madison had other ideas. From filling up in town, driving through Virginia City and Ennis, to walking the frozen banks and eating lunch in the Jeep, this was a reminder that sometimes the experience matters more than the outcome.
No hero shots.
No bent rods.
Just winter, solitude, and a quiet stretch of river.
