In this powerful narration from Jamiʿ at-Tirmidhi, we learn about Khabbab ibn al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him), a companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who endured long-term illness and severe pain. His body had been cauterized in seven places, yet despite his hardship, he held firmly to a prophetic teaching:
“None of you should wish for death.”
This story reminds us that patience in suffering carries immense reward and that even the dust a believer spends in the cause of Allah is counted — except what is wasted without purpose.
