Heavy rains suddenly flooded parts of Sivasagar district in Assam on 2nd August, submerging the village of Nepali Khuti under deep floodwaters. Local residents stepped up to rescue nearly 1,000 people stranded in the rising waters, with many leaving their own homes to help those from nearby villages. Across the district, the floods have affected over 1.36 lakh people and damaged around 15,000 hectares of crop area, while three deaths and two missing persons have been reported.

In the aftermath, residents returning home have been confronted with widespread devastation. Several locals described the destruction of their homes and livelihoods, with one resident summing up the sense of loss: “I don’t know where to begin.”
