On Monday, the Pioneer Baseball League (PBL) announced that the Grand Junction Jackalopes will relocate from Grand Junction for the start of their 2026 season.
"I am greatly saddened to make this announcement," said PBL President Mike Shapiro. "I know it's very disappointing for the team's many fans in the Grand Valley, but after making sincere efforts to keep the team in Grand Junction, it unfortunately didn't work out as hoped. The PBL will announce shortly where the team will relocate for the 2026."
The baseball team first started in 1978 as the Butte Copper Kings. After the 2000 season, the Copper Kings relocated to Casper, Wyoming, and changed their name to the Casper Ghosts, which was an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. The team moved to its current home at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction in 2011.
The PBL became an independent baseball league and was granted status as an MLB Partner League in 2021. In 2022, the team announced that it had changed its name to the Jackalopes. This year, the baseball team announced that it would have an alter ego and adopt the name of Humpack Chubs for home games on Wednesdays.
Shortly after the home season ended this year, the Grand Junction Jackalopes reflected on the experiences it gave to its fans. It provided both traditional and new community events and experiences for its home games
The Grand Junction Jackalopes ended its season with a final record of 41-55 after 96 games.
