The A2 highway is a strategic piece of infrastructure for Italy, the southern extension of the Autostrada del Sole to the north. Together, these two highways act as the main transport artery of the peninsula.
The Autostrada del Mediterraneo is a particularly complex work from a design, technical and organizational point of view. Its construction contributed to the full integration of the South of Italy within the European network of transport on rubber.
The Autostrada del Mediterraneo stretches more than 400 kilometres (SUPER: Salerno to Reggio Calabria)
from the city of Salerno south of Naples to Reggio Calabria at the southern tip of the peninsula.
Webuild (previously Salini Impregilo) helped build it between 1965 and 1974. More than 30 years later, it returned to help improve it. Between Gioia Tauro and Scilla, it built two dual carriageways. It also worked on the Sfalassà Viaduct and built the Favazzina Viaduct. Between Scilla and Campo Calabro, Webuild (previously Salini Impregilo) leant its experience to the construction of viaducts, bridges, interchanges and four natural tunnels and one man-made tunnel.
