Описание: On opening night we pay tribute to the greatest musician ever born in America in the year of the 100th anniversary of his birth. Leonard Bernstein influenced several generations of musicians across every genre of music and in every platform available. As a tribute to his contributions to the dramatic stage as a composer we perform his Overture to “Candide”, a thrilling ride through many of the themes from the operetta. We then pay tribute to Bernstein’s life as a performer with Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with Southern Miss music faculty member Michael Bunchman at the piano. Rhapsody in Blue was one of Bernstein’s favorite pieces to perform and conduct at the piano. Finally, we pay tribute to Bernstein’s impact as a conductor and teacher with the beautiful and powerful Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92 by Ludwig von Beethoven. Bernstein conducted this work on his final concert at Tanglewood, a place he would come “to replenish my soul” for over 40 years as a conductor and teacher.
