First results using the new NaysCUBE model for a high-resolution 3D hydraulic model of an alpine river at 37 m³/s. The modelled section of the reach is 70 m wide and 120 m long. The mesh consists of a 15 layer 81 x 71 (1.5 x 1 m) element grid. For this model, the non-linear k-epsilon model was chosen along with the TVD-MUSCL scheme.
The NaysCUBE model is developed by Ichiro Kimura at Hokkaido University in Japan. The model employs a generalized curvilinear coordinate system in the horizontal layers, and uses a sigma system in the vertical, allowing for complex bed topographies to be accurately reconstructed and modelled. Another feature is the moveable grid, interface tracking system which allows for a change of both the water surface and bed (when the bedload module is run).
