Source of the River Thames.
The source of the River Thames is a subject of debate. Traditionally, it is considered to be Thames Head, a group of seasonal springs in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, Great Britain.
However, some sources argue that the true source is Seven Springs, a location in Gloucestershire, which is farther from the mouth of the Thames and would make it the longest river in the UK.
The Thames Head is purported to be the Thames beginning, but my location is much further West near the derelict Stroudwater canal's Sapperton Tunnel. The Thames Head is located in a meadow called Trewsbury Mead, near the villages of Coates and Kemble, and is marked by an inscribed stone. The spring water comes from the limestone aquifers of the Cotswolds, but the source can change due to the level of groundwater in the limestone, causing the river to begin lower down in its course in dry periods.
It's worth noting that the River Thames is approximately 215 miles long and flows through several counties before emptying into the North Sea.
