Digital Challenges for the Oil and Gas Industry

In recent years, the worldwide drop in the price of a barrel of oil has contributed to the transformation of industrial processes with the use of digital technologies, creating for the Oil & Gas industry at the same time: a challenge and a path for increasing its operational efficiency and for innovative and creative technical and human solutions to increase the generation of value for the sector.

Two major initiatives related to standardization have been led by this industry in The Open Group: OSDU (Open Subsurface Data Universe) and OPA (Open Process Automation) Forums, with the common objective of standardizing data layers and applications (OSDU) or architecture and forms of information exchange (OPA), enabling more efficient chemical processing plants independent of proprietary technologies, while enabling creative development. That is why it is common to hear in the sector that we are behind the 'oil hidden in the data' as a way to make this important shift for the future that is already knocking on our door.

Presenter:
Pedro Vieira has worked for PETROBRAS for 16 years in Automation and Instrumentation (A&I) area, as Project Manager of Basic and Executive Engineering Designs and as Technical Manager of Automation and Instrumentation for Offshore Production Units. Prior, was graduate professor in Telecommunications Engineering in State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and other institutions. Has been working, in the last year, as Manager for Digital Engineering and Project Automation initiatives in PETROBRAS Engineering team, including Engineering Data Management, Databases, Programming for Engineering and Digital Transformation. Pedro has a degree of Electronics Engineer from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a Master degree in AI applied to Electronics from the same institution.
